Site Surveys

A survey is often the most appropriate first step in allowing customers to understand the connectivity environment within their location.

Understanding surveys

A survey is often the most appropriate first step in allowing customers to understand the connectivity environment within their location.

Surveys can range from desktop surveys, which look at theoretical carrier coverage and service availability to in depth site surveys where network performance (cellular/Wi-Fi etc) can be tested in situ.

Connectivity surveys are often a crucial first step to ensure effective planning and design before installing a new network.

Site surveys can be carried out remotely via a desktop survey or should it be required we can send out an engineer to undertake a survey on site.

At Onwave we ensure that your network has the best possible performance by supporting you with a range of surveys, making us the perfect partner for your projects no matter where they are located:

Types of surveys

We can undertake a range of different survey types, depending on your specific needs and requirements, these include the following:

  • Desktop Surveys

These surveys allow you to get an indication of the WAN services and their likely performance in the location of your site. They will explain what services are available from cellular to fixed line as well as giving you a broad understanding of the attainable speeds/coverage. Desktop surveys are an ideal first step in assessing the options available.

  • Health check and fault-finding surveys

These are ideal for existing networks, identifying and resolving issues such as dead spots or slow performance.

  • Onsite Surveys

These Offer a detailed, on-location analysis with sophisticated equipment to ensure optimal network performance.

Our site survey documentation will be provided to you and your options will be fully explained when it comes to the right solutions for the locations covered.

  • Physical On-site Surveys

These surveys can be used for a range of scenarios to ensure that you can gain a more comprehensive idea of the costs or service performance before making a larger commercial commitment.

Onwave are able to support you with a range of physical on-site surveys including:

    • Cellular Survey – these are perfect for customers looking to understand how the existing public mobile networks will perform at the specific site of work. Onwave can automate data collection to support large area coverage surveys testing: throughput, latency, signal strength and signal quality, to help you establish how the public mobile 4/5G networks will perform across your project or in your location.
    • Starlink Survey – these allow customer to understand challenges with coverage and obscuration and to get an idea of the installation requirements associated with installing your new Starlink Antenna. Onwave experts will make recommendations around installation best practice, looking at wind loads, cable routes, obscuration.
    • Fixed Line survey – a fixed line survey will allow you to understand the cost of deploying fibre services to any address that is not currently connected via Openreach. Fixed line surveys are useful in determining the potential Excess Construction Charges (ECC) that can be applied by Openreach.
    • Installation Survey – a survey to determine how best services can be installed within an office or site, this can include elements such as cable routing, fire compartmentalisation, access, roof inspection, mounting designs, assessment of hazards for RAMS etc. the purpose of the installation survey is to give customers a clear understanding on scope and cost of installation.
    • Wi-Fi Surveys – a Wi-fi network survey can be extremely useful in planning and selection of Wi-Fi equipment, it can help you with positioning often reducing the number of devices needed. You can work to pinpoint or maximise coverage and ensure that you are avoiding channel overlaps and interference. Heat maps for different bands can ensure you optimise the performance of your wireless network.

Benefits

Custom network design

Tailored solutions to meet your specific needs, overcoming any physical or interference challenges.

Survey Heatmaps

Providing you with visual mapping of the available connectivity for your locations.

Network optimisation

Expert recommendations to enhance the performance of your current setup.

Guaranteed coverage

Ensuring reliable connectivity for all devices, even in challenging environments.

Site Interference

A survey can detect other wireless networks (internal or external to your site) or devices that might be interfering with your network and cause decreased connectivity performance.

Engineer expertise

Our experienced engineers have successfully conducted surveys and optimisations across various industries, ensuring high-performance, reliable wireless networks.

We also look at back-up and failover connectivity to ensure your operations remain uninterrupted by network disruption.
